Can you feel it? We are receiving hostile signals from the depths of space. Governments all over the world are preparing for the worst and a space centre is planned to open in Peckham this October Half-Term.
The SMASHfestUK Space Response Team is looking for cadets aged 11 to 16 to join them and become highly trained astronauts in a day. Will you accept the challenge?
At this summer-camp-like event in October half-term, you will join other young people from South East London and train with them to become an astronaut. Upon registration in the morning, you will be given your equipment (which includes your own personal Cadet ID) and will be greeted by the SMASHfestUK Space Response Team. You will then be trained, through a series of challenges and activities, as an astronaut. At the end of the day, you will be ready to tackle any space mission and, possibly, have saved Earth from a catastrophic threat.
Amongst other exciting activities and challenges based on real-life NASA training exercises done by recruits on their journey to become astronauts, you should expect:
1. Exploration of Mars' surface: follow our Space Exploration team in their search for life on Mars' surface and contribute to the research of many. Could we ever live on the red planet?
2. Perform a space-walk: imagine having to perform a highly complicated task whilst floating in space ... how would you feel? Join our Rescue Team and discover what astronauts have to do on a space-walk ... by performing one!
3. Drive a rover: when humans can't do it, a robot will! Join our Space Exploration team in their mission to safely drive a rover onto the surface of a planet never explored by humans. What you'll find might surprise you.
